Robert and I got special treatment on our February visit to the city archives at Eisenberg. The Archives are normally closed on Monday, but he explained about his schedule and our visit and so they allowed us to come in on Monday. As with much of genealogy research, sometimes you get a lot and sometimes only a few tasty morsels. We were lucky in that the archives had been moved about once or twice a year for a number of years and was preparing to be moved again this spring. Many of their records have not made it out of boxes in a long time. We were able to look at the Zeugmacher Guild records, the immigration notices in the newspaper and some tax records. I was able to pinpoint when my great-grandmother came over to the US, which I had not known before. Robert is still working on translating the other records which mainly consist of names, amounts of money and small comments.
Schlosskirche (castle church) from arch in the garden. In this church ancestor Christian Wilhelm Thusius rang the church bells and ran the organ bellows. Few people were baptized or married in this church - mostly nobles.
The Rathaus in Eisenberg
The town received its charter in 1274. In 1675 the Ernestian descendant, King Christian made the town his residence and the Schloss with its beautiful chapel was built for his residence. The Rathaus, St. Peter's Church and the Cafe/Museum are clustered around the Markt Square.

Klötznersches Haus built 1482 now houses a cafe and museum next to the church.
St. Peter's Church, the stadtkirche (City Church) in Eisenberg. Our ancestors of Eisenberg were baptised and married here. This church is in the main center of the old town.
