Rev. Carl Thusius Funeral Thursday
Retired Minister Stricken at Home Here on Monday
Funeral services for the Rev. Carl P. Thusius, whose death at his home, 706 Western avenue, was announced yesterday afternoon, will be held on Thursday. The service will be at 2 o’clock in St. John’s Lutheran church of which he was a member. The Rev. F. H. Eggers, pastor of the church, and the Rev. William Reitz, Lebanon, will officiate. Burial will be in the Lutheran cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, when the casket will be closed just prior to the service. On Wednesday, from 3 to 9 p.m., friends may call at the Hafemeister funeral home to pay their respects and also on Thursday up to 10 a.m.
Rev. Thusius was born in Saxony, Germany on March 30, 1856, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Thusius. His father was for many years active as a professor in Germany.
Educated Abroad
He studied at three German universities, Eisenach [Eisenberg], Jena and Leipsic [Leipzig]. In 1886 he came to this country and in 1888 accepted a call as professor at Waverly college, Waverly, Ia. In 1889 he went to Hertley [sic], Ia. where he became pastor of a church. He remained there three-and-a-half years. After that he went to South Dakota where he served several pastorates. Later he transferred to Wisconsin. His last pastorate in this state was at Hocheim, near Mayville. he retired in 1927 and moved to Watertown.
He was married to Miss Emma Hoffmann of South Bend, Ind., on Nov. 26, 1890. They observed their golden wedding in 1940.
Family Survives
His wife survives, as do seven of the eight children born to them. Of these, one son, Paul, died in infancy. The surviving children are Mrs. Theresa Lenling, Hartland; Henry G. Thusius, this city; Mrs. Helen Azstrow, Nashotah; the Rev. Oscar Thusius, Delavan; Miss Hertha Thusius, at home; John (Jack) Thusius, Delavan, and Eberhard Thusius, St. Charles, Ill. There are ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Rev. Thusius had been quite active until recently, despite his advanced years. His death yesterday was due to general infirmities.
Since moving here Rev. Thusius had become a well known figure about the city and had many friends. He was an energetic man, much more active than is general for one his years. he had an alert mind and was a life long student and reader. He had a keen sense ofr humor and his life reflected the Christian upbringing and education which were.... [cut off]

Mrs. Emma Thusius, 78, died this morning at her home 522 1-2 North Washington street. She was the widow of the Rev. Carl Thusius who died here in 1945.
Mrs. Thusius was the former Emma Hoffmann and was born in Germany on Sept. 13, 1871, coming to this country at the age of 17. She and the Rev. Mr. Thusius were married on Nov. 26, 1890. She had resided here since 1927.
Three daughters and four sons survive, Miss Hertha Thusius, this city; Mrs. Edward Zastrow, Nashotah;, Mrs. Frank Lenling, Hartland; Henry Thusius, this city; the Rev. Oscar Thusius, Delavan; John Thusius, Portage; and Eberhardt Thusius, St. Charles, Ill.
There are 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. There is one sister, Mrs. Martha Mackbarth, South Bend, Ind.
Mrs. Thusius was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church and the Ladies Aid society.
Private funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hafemeister funeral home after which the body will be taken to St. John’s church to lie in state until 2 p.m. when the services will be conducted. The Rev. M.A. Bertermann will officiate. Interment will be in the Lutheran cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. and Saturday forenoon prior to the service and later at the church up to 2 p.m.

Carl O. Thusius, of Delavan, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at his home, 12 days short of his 84th birthday. He was born Sept. 30, 1924, in LaValle Township, Sauk Co., WI, the son of the Rev. Oscar and Elizabeth (Krohn) Thusius. The family moved to Delavan, WI, in 1929, when his father accepted a call to become the pastor of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He married the former Doreen Karges on Jan. 1, 1946, in Delavan. He owned and operated Thusius Standard Oil Station. He went on to be employed by the Borg Fabric Division as General Foreman. He and his wife later moved to Central Wisconsin, where he worked as a Real Estate and Insurance Broker, as well as being associated with the manufactured housing and recreational vehicle industry in the areas of sales, manufacturing and financing. He returned to Delavan and ended his working career as a manager for senior citizen rental complexes. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He enjoyed nature, traveling, camping, classic and antique cars, 1940s music, and most of all, his family.
Carl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doreen, of Delavan; two daughters, Gail (Larry) Huisheere and Kim (Wayne) Schuenke, both of Darien; seven grandchildren: Ami (Ken) Rapp, Steven (Maria) Huisheere, Heather Huisheere, Jeffrey Huisheere, Justin (Tina) Schuenke, Amanda (Rick) Zur and Luke (Jody) Schuenke; four great-grandsons: Carson. Landon, Aidan & Jacob; one brother, Dolore Thusius of Kalamazoo, MI; two sisters-in-law, Arnola Thusius Harris and Lorraine Schroeder; as well as other family and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Thusius.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 a. m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Betzer Funeral Home, Delavan, is assisting the family.

NORTH LAKE/ELKHORN Norman E. Thusius, Col. (Ret.), age 71, of North Lake and formerly of Elkhorn, WI, died on Dec. 7, 2003. He was born on Feb. 10, 1932, in Delavan, son of Oscar Thusius and Elizabeth (Krohn) Thusius. Norm began his 37-year military career in 1950 in a U.S. Army Infantry unit in Elkhorn, WI. He served two years in the regular Army, stationed in Germany, in an Air Defense artillery unit. Upon returning from Europe he was transferred to a field artillery unit in Wisconsin Rapids where he served for 18 years, becoming the Battalion commander. Norm transferred to Milwaukee in 1978 and became the executive officer of the 32nd Separate Infantry Brigade. Norm finished his career in Madison in 1987 as the State Emergency Government officer. He was the beloved husband of Arnola (Kramer) Thusius; dear father of Paul (Nichole) and John (Christie) Thusius; dear grandfather of Kathleen, Mariah, Myha, Spencer, and Emma; and brother of Carl (Doreen) and Dolore Thusius. Norman is also survived by other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at DIVINE REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH, Hwy. 83 just N. of Hwy. 16, Hartland, WI. Further visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at DIVINE REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH. The interment of Norm's cremated remains will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at SPRING GROVE CEMETERY, Delavan.
