Obituary notes for Hannah H. WINTERS
Paterson Evening News, Tuesday, 5 November 1895, p. 1 (viewed at www.fultonhistory.com)
Death of a Good Old Lady.

Mrs. Hannah Post grandmother of John B. Spear of the News office, died yesterday at the residence of her daughter Mrs. Jacob Spear 184 Tyler street at the good old age of 92 years.

She was remarkably healthy and active for a woman of her years and never was ailing until a week before her death. She passed away gently as in a slumber and not for a few minutes did those present know that the angel of death had closed her eyes forever, that the kindly heart had ceased to beat and the saintly soul was safe in the arms of Him who giveth His beloved sleep.

Grandma Post was born in Wyckoff Bergen Co., New Jersey in 1804. Her maiden name was Hannah Winters, and her parents were well-to-do farmers. She married at the age of 18 in 1822, Abraham Post, and the newly wedded couple took up their residence here, where Mrs. Post has ever since resided with the exception of a few years spent with her daughter Mrs. Nesbitt, in New York. The deceased has four daughters all of whom survive her. They are Mrs. Jacob Spear, of this city, Mrs. Bernard Van Riper, of Brooklyn, New York, Mrs. Richard Van Riper, of Jersey City, N.J. and Mrs. William B. Nesbitt, of New York city.

Mrs. Post has been a widow for forty-seven years; but her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren idolized her and made her life happy. She was a sincere Christian, having been a communicant of the Second Reformed church since coming to Paterson in 1822. Kindly in heart, pure in mind, gentle in word and deed, she lived a consistent Christian, and died the full hope of glorious immortality.
