Maurice E. "Pete" Werremeyer , 90, of Huntingburg, passed away at 11:20 p.m., on Sunday, November 12, 2017, at his home.
He was born February 17, 1927, in Pike County to Oliver and Alvina (Kemper) Werremeyer and married Melba M. Roesner on August 20, 1950, at St. James Lutheran Church in Holland.
He served in the United States Navy as a Gunner's Mate Third Class during the Korean War from 1951-55.
Pete worked as an independent bulk milk hauler. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, the Holland American Legion and V.F.W. Post #2366. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and fishing; and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and I.U. Basketball fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Everett "Jim" Werremeyer ; and one sister, Katherine M. Werremeyer .
Pete is survived by his wife, Melba M. Werremeyer , of Huntingburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Jack R. (Barbara) Werremeyer of Dale; one daughter and son-in-law, Joni M. (Jay) Zarnoth of Dale; by six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Maurice "Pete" Werremeyer will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, November 17, 2017, at St. James Lutheran Church in Holland, with burial to follow at St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Holland. The Reverend David Darling and Reverend Ed Wicks will officiate at the service. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Holland American Legion Memorial Detail assisted by members of the V.F.W. Post #2366.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 16.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Lutheran Cemetery Endowment Fund or Honor Flight of Southern Indiana.

Melba Roesner Bride of Maurice Werremeyer
Miss Melba Roesner became the bride of Maurice Werremeyer in a double ring ceremony at 6:30 P.M. Sunday, August 20, in St. James Lutheran Church, Holland.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Roesner, Holland, and Mr. Werremeyer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Werremeyer, Route 1, Huntingburg.
Rev. H.W. Schroeder officiated before the altar decorated with gladioli and other garden flowers.
Miss Henrietta Loewenstein played organ number including “To An Evening Star,” “Liebestraum,” “Because” and the traditional wedding marches.
Donald Hemmer sang “I Love You Truly,” “At Cana, Lord, Thou Didst Appear,” “Oh, Perfect Love,” and as the couple knelt at the altar he sang “The Lord’s Prayer.”
The bride, given in marriage, by her father, wore a slate gray gabardine suit with black accessories. She wore rhinestone earrings and a rhinestone necklace, gifts of the groom. She carried a purple-throated orchid on a white satin prayer book from which fell white ribbons tied in lover’s knots.
The bride carried out the traditional “something old, new, borrowed and blue.”
Mrs. Ralph Rebber served as matron-of-honor and wore a gabardine suit of claret wine with black accessories. She carried white carnations.
Ralph Rebber was best man and Ray Roesner, brother of the bride served as usher.
Mrs. Roesner and Mrs. Werremeyer, mothers of the bride and groom respectively were both dressed in black and wore corsages of white carnations.
The wedding dinner following the ceremony was served at the Holland Dairy Bar for the bridal party and immediate families.
Mrs. Werremeyer is a graduate of Holland high school class of 1947 and is now employed at General Electric at Huntingburg. The groom is a graduate of Stendal high school, class of 1945 and is now employed at Holland Custard and Ice Cream Co. at Holland.
