A. Reid

Richard A. Reid, cherished husband of Joan, died Sunday night, November 6th, 2011. Dick was born June 7th, 1918, in Neuilly-Sur-Seine, France, during the bombing of Paris. Son of William and Belle Goodwin Reid, his father was a consultant for the French Railroad System. At the end of World War I the family returned to Ohio. From Ohio University Dick went into the Army in 1940, going through the ranks until he became Captain of the 174th Field Artillery under General Patton. Dick served all through Europe, earning five Battle Stars. After World War II he worked for the U.S. War Assets Administration until he entered the confectionery business and eventually became a manufacturer’s representative. His first wife, Crystelle, whom he had married in 1942, died in 1981. In 1984 he married Joan Crawford Reid. They had many happy times traveling, visiting all 50 states and over 60 countries.

After he retired, Dick drove Joan for Meals on Wheels, and became active in SCORE, serving as chairman. They also enjoyed Cotillion Dance Club for 20 years. Dick was a member of the American Legion and MOAA (Military Officers Association of America). He was a much loved dad to Eric and Melissa (Ferree) Hassel, Kurt Hassel and fiancée Nui Bumrungsiri, Garth and Karen (Anttonen) Hassel and Jennifer (Evanson) Hassel, and Daddad to 11 grandchildren. He was also "Ankle Dick" to four nephews and their families, who all live in Colorado. Dick was predeceased by his dear sister Ruth and his stepson, Mark H. Hassel M.D.

Funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family.
