Notes for Wenzel ALBRECHT
A baptism for Wenzel does not appear in the Jindřichův Hradec parish records. He possibly may have been born in another location. However it seems as if his father, Mathias, deceased at Wenzel’s marriage, is a citizen cloth maker in Jindřichův Hradec.
As to the notations on the records: Civis Pannifex…
If you put these in for Google Translation or most other Latin translations they indicate that the person is a baker. This is not so in this line and maybe others. Civis means burgher or citizen. Pannifex put into a translator yields baker. Panni by itself comes out “cloth.” When you can get records in Czech and Latin for the same person, that person is listed in Czech as soukeník which is draper - a cloth person. The Emmer family who were sponsors or witnesses at baptisms were pannitinctore - not bread dyers - cloth dyers. Therefore, I have gone with the translation being someone who works with cloth rather than baker. I think it highly unlikely that someone in the 1700s would change occupations from draper to baker.
I believe that this is the correct father for the Elizabeth Albrecht. Wenzel is named as Elizabeth’s father at her marriage. There are at least 2 Wenzels of correct age to be her father. This Wenzel who first married Ursula Skala and second married Barbora Prochaska had children whose godparents/witnesses at baptism were Mathias Emmer and/or his wife Elisabeth. Karl Maly and Elisabeth Albrecht had children whose godparents/witnesses were Carl Emmer and/or his wife Magdalena. Mathias is the father of Carl, hence the two families Emmer help connect the two families Albrecht.
